What not do in MBBS 1st year?

1.Never call yourself a doctor, because there's so much to be accomplished before u can really add that prestigious DR before our name😁

2.Respect all our professors, address them politely

3.Try to be in the good books of our seniors, after all u definitely require their help fr an eternity

4. Be humble to all, everyone in the campus knows much more than a newbie like u

5.Have the habit of studying regularly, well that doesn't mean u hv to be a topper, but be regular with our schedule

6.Never bother about marks, u will begin to face the harsh reality of failing in internals😅 But get ready to face such hardships as squeezing through Mbbs requires a whole lot of struggle and this would just be a stepping stone

7.Help each other, make new friends, teach one another

8.Try to involve our self in extra curricular activities, build gud skills, get into a sport... Mbbs is not just abt studying all the while😉

9. Lastly don't get fatigued on seeing the never ending bulky schedule….Enjoy life, go out with friends for a movie whenever possible, eat outside, have a happy time…These 5.5 yrs that u get to experience is a golden period.

Almost everyone has similar experiences, everyone who has completed MBBS 1st year will tell you to study regularly, support batchmates, respect seniors etc.

So I won't be repeating those, I'll rather focus on other important things which are often ignored:

  • Dont run towards perfection.

You want to be good at academics, You want to pursue your hobbies too, You want to become financially independent, You want to be active on social media too, You don't want to miss on the fun part too.

If this is you, then please relax buddy. This used to be me and you know what did I get? Anxiety, low self esteem and lost confidence.

Why?

Because I was crushed by my own expectations which I couldn't live up to.

Have a bucket list for sure. Go for one thing at a time. It's okay to not to be great at some things. There's an entire life infront of you ( to be optimistic ofc), so chill.

  • Respecting seniors is a different thing, whereas being a blind follower is different.

Seeking advises is good, taking lessons from their experiences is great, but do not forget to have a stand of your own.

  • Do not be afraid of being different.

The best example I can give for that is, it's okay if you like having ketchup with your Maggi. You don't need to be bothered about others finding it ewwwwww😂😂.

  • Do not ignore your struggles, do not run away from your problems.

Running away from your problems will only create more. Face'em like a fighter.😌

  • Failures are the best teacher, but do not make it a habit.

  • Failing in class tests doesn't matter

  • Failing in terminals doesn't matter

Do not make failure your comfort zone. After a while, failing becomes a habit. This is detrimental. Disaster. Things matter. Efforts matter. Giving your best shot matters. Not putting efforts is uncool. Giving up is uncool.
  • This last point is exclusively for my friends falling in unreserved category. Do not hesitate in skipping a few parties for your studies. Learn to prioritise things. They are freaking privileged, you are not! You'll always have to be 20 steps ahead of them!

I faced a lot of situations when I felt the need to talk to an elder for guidance.

And there was this one person I knew I could always confide in. Throughout the year(and hopefully for many more years to come), I always had a helper, motivator, guide, inspiration.

Try to have that someone in your life too!
